PLC PDF files

PLC PDF files

As of DBDOC 11.7 we have introduced comprehensive handling of PLC PDF files for both SMS and FSC PLCs. Hotspots are generated for tag references and sheet transfers, allowing you to quickly traverse your logic diagrams and see exactly where the signals lead, and click on a tag name to see all the other places it is used in your system.

To build your PLC PDF files into your DBDOC file:

  • Export the Honeywell SMS or FSC PLC logic for each PLC into a PDF file and have it available in a unique folder for that PLC. Each folder should look similar to the following:

  • Export the DBF form tag list for it and put it into the same folder
  • In BuildPlus include the .DBF files in the System File Specifications for your project
  • Select the PLC .PDF files option in the Wizard

PLC IO Hardware Report

If your project has PLC PDFs built in, DBDOC will generate a PLC IO Hardware Reports for them. In the Hyperview table of contents, the Other Documentation section will have chapters for all your PLC PDFs.

Inside each other these chapters, there will be a reports section where you can find the IO Hardware Report.

For each tag found in the PDFs, the report will list the type of diagram it's found on, its service description, qualification, and location formatted as "Rack Position Channel". Each of the columns can be sorted ascending or descending by clicking on them.

PLC Transfers

Each PLC PDF has an index of PLC sheet transfers that can be found in the parent PLC PDF documentation chapter.

This index contains links pointing to the locations where a signal transfers from one sheet to the next. The transfers are labelled in the form SRC_DES_SQ where:

SRC - is the source sheet that the signal came from.

DES - is the destination sheet where the signal is going to.

SQ - is the transfer sequence number for the signal.

For example, 1008_1010_2 would be for a signal that came from sheet 1008, is headed to sheet 1010, and has a sequence number of 2.

Sometimes a signal ends on a sheet and does not continue to another one, in this case the transfer will be listed in the index as just the source and the sequence number, ex. "101_1".

Assigning prefixes to PLC PDF files

If your project includes PLC PDF files, BuildPlus will give you an opportunity to assign prefixes to the tags associated with them. This is useful when you are using a single taglist with individually prefixed tags to associate them to their respective PLC PDF files.

During the build, the PLC PDF Prefixes dialog will pop up. At this stage you can select a file from the drop down list, and enter a prefix to assign to it.

  • PLC .PDF File: Here you can select which PLC PDF file to target using the drop down list.
  • Prefix to use: This is where you can type the characters to be used as a prefix.
  • Add To List: This button assigns the prefix you enter to be used when identifying tags belonging to the currently displayed PLC PDF file in the drop down list.
  • Add To All: This button is the same as adding to list, but instead of a single PLC PDF file it assigns it to all of them.
  • Assigned Prefixes: Here you can see an overview of all the PLC PDF files you have assigned prefixes to.
  • Remove: This button will remove the prefix from the currently selected PLC PDF file in the Assigned Prefixes section. It will return back to the drop down list should you want to assign a new one.
  • Remove All: This button is the same as remove but will remove the prefixes from all of the PLC PDF files.
  • Do not show this during the build again: Select this if you do not want the PLC PDF Prefixes dialog to pop up during subsequent builds. You can always edit your selections or re-enable the dialog from the BuildPlus Project Options.
